When I was a kid, getting up in the morning to get ready for my school day was a slight challenge for me. You probably could say that I wasn’t an early morning person.
Maybe, I wasn’t as fast in the morning as I was in the afternoon. Getting my day started was always a horrible task except on Sundays. My late starts caused me to miss the school bus often. Missing the bus caused me to get in my early morning workout called “chase down that bus!’
By the time I reached high school, I had a reputation of being the late kid that runs down buses. Why, because I was hardly ever ready to get on the bus when it was in front of my house. That sounds like life in the present. There have been times that great opportunities have knocked on my front door and I missed them because I was not ready.
As I thought about this concept this morning, I asked myself the question “what caused me to miss the bus so often.” There were two concepts that came to mind. If I missed the bus, I normally overslept or I was focused on the wrong thing and time slipped away.
HA! That sounds like life in the present, doesn’t it! One thing I realized this morning is that “missed opportunities are like missed buses.” They are time sensitive and arrive whether you are ready or not. (tweet this)
It amazed me that the same things that caused me to miss the bus have caused me to miss some major opportunities in my life. I have missed great opportunities because I woke up too late to recognize them. I have missed other opportunities because I was so preoccupied with other things that I did not seize the right moment. Things that make you go umm!
As you are walking through life today, take time to seize every moment and find the right opportunities in your life. What bus filled with opportunity have you missed because you weren’t ready? That’s a major question. It really makes you think. In a few days, I’m going to talk to you about oversleeping when the right time comes.
